The FEL-AD1 is the surface-mounted member of the FEL-AD downlight family, built for ceilings that cannot take a recessed cutout or for positions where the light has to be aimed rather than fixed. The head sits on a \u03c676mm base and tilts to point the beam where it is wanted, so one fixture covers a wall wash, a display feature or a spot on the floor depending on how it is set. Control is standard DMX512 with RGB or RGBW COB colour mixing, the same control path as the recessed FEL-AD2 heads, so the two families mix on one DMX run.<\/p>\n
The head is the reason to pick this over a fixed downlight. It tilts on the base, so the beam can wash a wall from the ceiling centre, graze a curtain or column, or spotlight a display from an angle that a recessed head cannot reach. That flexibility matters in fit-outs where the ceiling is exposed, in trackless retail displays that change layout, and in hospitality spaces where the furniture moves. The tilt is set by hand at installation; the head holds its position without tools.<\/p>\n
The light source is a COB in RGB or RGBW. The RGB version mixes red, green and blue for colour washes and effects. The RGBW version adds a dedicated white channel, which is the one to pick where the room needs a clean white light as well as the colour, because mixing white from red, green and blue always lands slightly tinted. Colour rendering and white quality matter less for pure effects work and more for spaces that alternate between colour scenes and ordinary white lighting, which is where the W channel earns its place.<\/p>\n
The fixture speaks standard DMX512 and is addressable and programmable like the rest of the FEL-AD family. Each head takes an address on the run, and scenes, colour chases and dimming curves are programmed from the console. The 20cm five-wire input and output cables daisy-chain the heads on one run, so a ceiling of them wires as a single chain rather than a star from a junction box. Power is 24VDC from a remote supply, sized for the total wattage of the run plus about 20% headroom. Set the address before the head goes up on the ceiling where possible; it is easier at the bench than on a ladder.<\/p>\n
The body is a \u230062mm aluminum cylinder, 122mm tall, on a \u03c676mm base that fixes to the ceiling surface. Aluminum does double duty as housing and heat sink, and there are no fans. The IP42 rating covers dry indoor ceilings: retail, hospitality, offices and similar spaces, not bathrooms or outdoor positions. Installation is the surface-mount procedure: fix the base, connect the daisy-chain, aim the head, set the address.<\/p>\n
Retail displays, where the head aims at the merchandising and re-aims when the layout changes. Hospitality and bars, where the RGBW heads alternate between a clean white service light and a coloured evening scene from the same fixture. Theaters and event venues that already run DMX and want ceiling accents on the same desk. Architectural features such as columns, artwork and textured walls, where a grazing angle from a tilted head shows the surface off better than a straight-down beam. And any exposed-ceiling fit-out, where a surface-mounted cylinder suits the industrial look better than a recessed hole.<\/p>\n
Each unit ships as a single spotlight with the base, the adjustable head and the 20cm input and output cables attached. The lens is factory-fitted at the angle ordered, and no driver or power supply is packed with the fixture; the 24VDC supply is a separate item sized to the run.
