The ILED-COB-480 is a COB (Chip-on-Board) LED strip light designed for continuous, dotless linear illumination in cove, under-cabinet, accent and architectural lighting applications. Unlike traditional SMD LED strips that show visible individual light points, the COB process packs 480 LED chips directly onto a narrow flexible PCB, producing a continuous line of light with no visible dots. Dotless COB technology

The COB (Chip-on-Board) manufacturing process places LED chips directly onto the PCB substrate without individual packaging frames. This eliminates the gaps between discrete SMD LEDs that create the familiar “dot pattern” on conventional strip lights. The result is a continuous, uniform line of light — ideal for cove lighting, edge illumination and architectural accent applications where visible light points would be visually distracting.

The ILED-COB-480 packs 480 COB LED positions per metre into a 10 mm wide PCB. At 10 W/m this delivers approximately 1,000 lm/m with a 180° beam angle, providing wide, even wash illumination. The high LED density means even at close mounting distances the light appears as a solid line rather than a series of points. This makes the COB-480 particularly suitable for visible installations where the light source itself is part of the design — exposed coves, suspended linear features and direct-view accent strips.

IP ratings and installation

The ILED-COB-480 is offered in four IP rating variants to match different installation environments. The standard IP42 version is suitable for dry indoor environments such as ceiling coves, under-shelf lighting and interior architectural features. The IP65 variant adds a silicone coating that protects against dust and water jets, making it suitable for covered outdoor use such as soffit lighting and sheltered facades. The IP67 and IP68 variants provide progressive submersion protection — IP67 for temporary immersion and IP68 for continuous submersion — for use in fountains, water features and harsh outdoor environments.

The strip is supplied on 5 metre rolls with a 15 cm input cable pre-attached. It adheres to surfaces using 3M yellow adhesive tape (standard) or 3M red adhesive tape (optional, higher temperature resistance). The flexible PCB can be bent to follow curved contours, and cut at the marked intervals (25 mm or 50 mm depending on variant) to achieve custom lengths. Custom roll lengths and cable configurations are available on request. Always verify the cut markings on the PCB before cutting — cutting between marks will disconnect the circuit.

Colour temperature and dimming

The ILED-COB-480 is available in a continuous colour temperature range from 2700K (warm white) to 6000K (cool white), with intermediate options typically available at 3000K, 4000K and 5000K. The CRI >90 rating ensures accurate colour rendering across the full spectrum, making the strip suitable for retail display, gallery accent lighting and food service environments where colour fidelity influences perception. The strip is dimmable — confirm compatibility with your intended dimmer (TRIAC, 0-10V or DALI) at order time, as not all COB drivers support every dimming protocol.

True dotless linear light.
— The ILED-COB-480 produces a continuous line of light with no visible LED dots, even at close range. Packing 480 COB LED positions per metre into a 10 mm PCB eliminates the gaps that create dotted patterns on standard SMD strips. Ideal for visible cove and architectural installations.

Select the IP rating that matches your installation environment at order time — the variants differ in silicone coating and are not interchangeable after manufacture.

180° beam for wide wash.
— The 180° beam provides wide, even illumination for cove and backlighting — wider than the 120° beam on many standard strips, reducing the number of strips needed per area.

Ceiling coves and recessed channels.
— The COB-480’s dotless 180° beam washes ceiling coves and recessed channels evenly, with no visible LED points at close range. The 10 mm profile fits tight cove profiles and the flexible PCB follows curves without kinking. CRI >90 renders interior colours accurately.

Under-cabinet and shelf lighting.

The 10 W/m power consumption keeps heat output low, reducing thermal stress on displayed products such as cosmetics, food and textiles.

100 lm/W efficacy. — The COB-480 delivers 1,000 lm/m at 10 W, giving 100 lm/W efficacy — competitive for a dotless COB strip. Higher efficacy means lower running costs and less heat per lumen versus older SMD strips at 60–80 lm/W.

Cut length varies by variant. — Cut length is 25 mm or 50 mm depending on variant — check PCB markings before ordering. Cutting between marks breaks the circuit. Verify the cut length spec at order time.

12VDC vs 24VDC matters. — Available in 12VDC and 24VDC. For runs over 3 m, use 24VDC to minimise voltage drop — 12VDC on long runs causes visible dimming at the far end.

IP rating is fixed at manufacture. — IP42/IP65/IP67/IP68 variants differ in silicone coating and are not convertible after manufacture. Select the correct IP rating at order time — an IP42 strip used outdoors will fail prematurely.

Dimmer compatibility must be confirmed. — The COB-480 is dimmable, but dimmer compatibility depends on the driver. Not all COB drivers support TRIAC, 0-10V and DALI equally — confirm your combination at order time.
