The ILED-FX-5050 48 is a flexible LED strip built on the SMD 5050 package at 48 LEDs per meter. It sits in the middle of the 5050 range: brighter and denser than the 30 piece strip, but not as intense or wide as the 120 piece version. That middle position makes it the everyday choice when you want 5050 output, a smooth even line, and colour options, without the very high power draw of the densest strip.
Tech specs at a glance
The strip runs on 12VDC or 24VDC, draws 11.5W per meter and puts out about 950 lumen per meter with a 120 degree spread. Colour rendering is CRI above 80 as standard and above 90 on request. Each piece ships as a 5 meter roll, 10mm wide, cuttable in 25mm steps.
Why the 5050 package
The 5050 is a bigger die than the 3528 and 2835, so each point is brighter and the light reads as smoother with fewer LEDs per meter. At 48 pieces the strip keeps a sensible 11.5W per meter, which is friendly for longer runs and easy to feed. It is not the brightest 5050 you can buy, it is the all-round middle option.
What 48 LEDs per meter means
Density sets how even and bright the line looks. The 48 piece here is clearly above the softer 30 piece strip, so it works for accent lines that need to read as genuinely lit, while staying lighter on power than the 120 piece version. It suits coves, under-cabinet and display work where you want smooth, even light without the very high output of the densest strip.
Colour options
You can have this strip in single colours or in multi-colour. The single colours are red, green, blue, yellow, warm white, commercial white and cool white, one colour per piece. The multi-colour options are RGB and RGB plus White, which add colour mixing and a white channel on the same strip. These are static strips, so the colour is set by a controller rather than addressing each LED separately.
Dual voltage: 12V or 24V
You can have this strip on 12V or 24. A 12V version is simple and pairs with the small transformers used for short cove and cabinet runs. A 24V version drops less voltage down a long line, so it stays even over longer distances. Choose the voltage that fits your supply and the length of the run.
IP rating options
The same strip is offered in four protection ratings. IP20 is for dry indoor locations such as coves and cabinetry. IP65 handles covered outdoor and wet areas like eaves and facades. IP67 and IP68 are for where the strip gets fully wet or sits in harsh coastal air. Match the rating to the location, not the highest one on the list.
Build and installation
The strip cuts cleanly in 25mm steps, so you trim it to fit instead of bending a longer piece. It is 10mm wide, so check your channel or cove clears that width. It is backed with 3M yellow double-sided tape, and a 3M red tape is available on request. A 15cm input cable is fitted to the leading end, and connector cables can be customized to a different length or plug.
What is in the box
Each order ships with the strip as a 5 meter roll, the 3M yellow mounting tape, and the 15cm input cable on the connection end. Custom lengths are cut to order from the same roll.
What you need to supply
You will need a power supply at 12VDC or 24VDC, matched to the strip version, sized for your total meters, which the 11.5W per meter figure makes easy to add up. For the RGB and RGB plus White options you also need a compatible controller. For dimming, a compatible LED dimmer is available.
Where it gets used
As an all-round 5050 strip it suits cove and ceiling lighting, under-cabinet and display work, TV and furniture backlight, and colour changing decoration. The multi-colour versions are the pick for signage and feature lines. Outdoors the IP65 and above versions handle eaves, facades and garden edges.
Lifespan and reliability
The SMD 5050 LEDs carry a 50,000 hour rated life, which at typical use is well past a decade. There are no moving parts and no fan, so the strip does not fail through heat. It works from -20 C to 50 C, and with a 24V supply and a properly sized driver the heat stays manageable even in a tight cove.
Here is what installers tell us they like about the 5050 48 piece strip:
A bigger LED. The SMD 5050 is the largest common strip package, so each point is brighter and the light reads smoother than a 3528 or 2835 at the same count.
The all-round middle. At 48 LEDs per meter it is brighter than the 30 piece strip but lighter on power than the 120 piece version, which makes it the everyday choice for accent and display work.
Single and multi-colour. The same strip comes in seven single colours and in RGB and RGB plus White, so you can do a fixed colour or colour changing from one product line.
Dual voltage choice. You can order it on 12V or 24, and for longer lines the 24V version stays even. That saves you from guessing the supply later.
Cut to the exact length. The 25mm cut step means you trim the strip to fit instead of wasting meters or bending a piece that will not sit flat.
All three use the SMD 5050 LED, but the density changes the output. The 30 piece is the dimmest and lightest. The 48 piece here is the middle, everyday option at about 950 lumen per meter. The 120 piece is the brightest and heaviest. Choose 48 for a smooth, well-lit line without the very high draw of the 120 piece version.
The 5050 is a bigger LED, so each point is brighter and the light reads smoother. At the same LEDs per meter a 5050 strip gives more output than a 3528, but it takes a little more power. Choose 5050 when you want a solid, even line of light.
In single colours, red, green, blue, yellow, warm white, commercial white and cool white, one colour per piece. And in multi-colour, as RGB and RGB plus White, which add colour mixing and a white channel on the same strip.
Yes. The RGB and RGB plus White options are static strips, so you set and change the colour with a compatible controller or driver. You cannot address each LED separately, because it is not an addressable strip.
For a short run of a few meters, 12V is fine and pairs easily with a small transformer. For longer lines, 24V drops less voltage, so the far end stays as bright as the near end. Running across a room or hallway? Start with 24V.
Under a covered roof eave, IP65 is enough. Where the strip gets fully wet, splashed hard or sits in coastal salt air, use IP67 or IP68. Match the rating to how wet the location is.
Add up your total meters and multiply by 11.5W. A 10 meter run is about 115W, so choose a 12VDC or 24VDC supply with a little headroom over that, and add the matching controller for the RGB and RGB plus White options.
Mid-density 5050 strips like this one are used for everyday and colour lighting where you want a smooth, well-lit line:
Ceiling coves and indirect lighting. The 950 lumen per meter is enough to carry a cove line across a room, and the 5050 package keeps the light even with barely any visible gap between the points.
Under-cabinet and task lighting. The output is enough to light a worktop, counter or reading zone, and the 10mm body tucks away out of sight so the light is what you see.
TV, mirror and furniture backlight. A warm white single colour gives a soft ambient edge, while an RGB or RGB plus White version lets the backlight change colour to match the room or the mood.
Signage and edge accents. The single and multi-colour options are handy where you want a fixed colour or a changing one, such as a store front, a counter edge or a marker line.
Architectural and facade. With IP65 and above, the strip outlines eaves, columns, canopies and garden edges outdoors, where it is weatherproof but still a clean, smooth line of light.
A few things to check before ordering:
Buy the controller for RGB. The RGB and RGB plus White options need a matching controller. Buy that at the same time so the install works when it arrives.
Pick the voltage first. Choose 12V for short, easy runs and 24V for longer lines, and buy the matching power supply. Mixing them up is the most common cause of a strip that will not run.
Size the power supply. Multiply your total meters by 11.5W and buy a little above that figure. Undersizing is the most common cause of a strip that dims at the far end.
Match the IP rating to the location. IP20 is dry indoor only. Use IP65 for covered outdoor and wet areas, and IP67 or IP68 for full or harsh exposure.
Check the 10mm width. The 5050 body is broader than the 3528 strips, so make sure your channel, cove or gap clears 10mm before you start cutting.
