The ILED-COB-840 RGB is a Chip-on-Board (COB) RGB LED strip light designed for dynamic colour-mixing applications where a continuous, dotless line of full-spectrum colour is required. Unlike traditional SMD RGB strips that show individual red, green and blue light points, the COB process packs 840 LED positions per metre — 280 red, 280 green and 280 blue — into a 10 mm wide flexible PCB, producing a uniform colour line with no visible dots even at close mounting distances.

RGB colour-mixing technology
The ILED-COB-840 RGB produces its full colour range by independently pulsing the red, green and blue LED arrays at varying duty cycles via PWM (pulse-width modulation) control. By adjusting the relative intensity of each primary colour, the strip can produce any colour in the RGB spectrum — from warm white (dominant red+green) through cool white (dominant blue) to saturated red, green, blue and every hue in between. The 280 red, 280 green and 280 blue COB positions per metre provide sufficient primary colour density for smooth, uniform colour blending with no visible colour banding.
Unlike addressable (WS2812B, DMX-controlled) RGB strips where each LED can display a different colour simultaneously, the COB-840 RGB is a static RGB strip — the entire strip changes colour as one unit. This makes it ideal for applications where a single ambient colour or colour gradient is desired across the full length, such as cove wash lighting, architectural accent strips and retail display backlighting. For multi-zone or individually addressable colour effects, select an addressable RGB strip instead.
IP ratings and installation
The ILED-COB-840 RGB is offered in four IP rating variants. The standard IP42 version is suitable for dry indoor environments such as ceiling coves, under-shelf lighting and interior architectural features. The IP65 variant adds a silicone coating that protects against dust and water jets, suitable for covered outdoor use such as soffit lighting and sheltered facades. The IP67 and IP68 variants provide progressive submersion protection — IP67 for temporary immersion and IP68 for continuous submersion — for use in fountains, water features and harsh outdoor environments.
The strip is supplied on 5 metre rolls with a 15 cm input cable pre-attached. It adheres to surfaces using 3M yellow adhesive tape (standard) or 3M red adhesive tape (optional, higher temperature resistance). The flexible PCB can be bent to follow curved contours and cut at the marked 25 mm intervals to achieve custom lengths. Custom roll lengths and cable configurations are available on request. Always verify the cut markings on the PCB before cutting — cutting between marks will disconnect the circuit. The 24VDC input requires a 24VDC RGB controller and power supply — confirm controller compatibility (PWM channel count, current rating) at order time.
Controller and dimming requirements
The ILED-COB-840 RGB requires a 24VDC RGB controller with three independent PWM channels (one each for red, green and blue) to produce full colour-mixing. The controller must be rated for the total current draw of your installation — at 15 W/m, a 5 metre roll draws approximately 75W (about 3.1A at 24VDC). Always add a 20% current margin when sizing your power supply. The strip is dimmable — both overall brightness and individual colour channel intensity can be adjusted via the controller. Confirm your controller supports the COB-840 RGB’s current draw and PWM frequency at order time.
840 LEDs/m for smooth RGB blending.
— Packs 840 LED positions per metre (280 red + 280 green + 280 blue) into a 10 mm PCB — higher density than standard SMD RGB strips. Ensures smooth, uniform colour blending with no visible banding or dot patterns, even in saturated solid colours.
True dotless RGB line.
— The COB process eliminates the gaps between discrete RGB LEDs that create visible colour separation on standard strips. The result is a continuous, uniform colour line — ideal for visible cove installations, architectural accents and direct-view applications where the strip itself is part of the design.
Four IP rating options.
— Available in IP42, IP65, IP67 and IP68. Select at order time — variants differ in silicone coating and are not interchangeable after manufacture.
24VDC for stable colour.
— Operates exclusively on 24VDC — more stable colour output over longer runs than 12VDC RGB strips, which suffer visible voltage drop and colour shift at the far end. For runs over 3 m, 24VDC is strongly recommended.
The COB-840 RGB is an RGB colour-mixing strip (280 red + 280 green + 280 blue LEDs/m); the COB-480 (13923/13942) is a static white COB strip (480 white LEDs/m). Both share 10 mm width and dotless COB technology. The COB-840 RGB draws more power (15 W/m vs 9–10 W/m) and requires a 3-channel PWM RGB controller.

— Creates dynamic colour atmospheres behind glass display cases, along shelf edges and in feature wall niches. The ability to match colour to seasonal campaigns or brand colours is valuable for retail. The dotless effect ensures a uniform glow — visible LED dots would undermine the display aesthetic.
Mood and ambient lighting.
— Ideal for residential and commercial spaces where adjustable ambient colour enhances the atmosphere — living rooms, bedrooms, bars, restaurants and event venues. The full RGB spectrum matches colour to mood, occasion or brand identity.
Static RGB, not addressable. — Changes colour as a single unit across the full strip. Cannot display different colours on different sections. For multi-zone or animated effects, select an addressable RGB strip (WS2812B or DMX-controlled). The static RGB design is simpler and more cost-effective for single-zone ambient colour.
24VDC only. — Not compatible with 12VDC. Always pair with a 24VDC RGB controller and power supply rated for total current draw (approx. 3.1A per 5 m roll, plus 20% margin).
CRI does not apply. — CRI is a rating for white light sources only. The COB-840 RGB produces RGB hues, not a fixed white colour. If you need CRI >90 white light, select the COB-480 white variant (13923 or 13942) instead.
Cuts at 25 mm intervals only. — This is the only cut length on this variant. Always cut at marked PCB points — cutting between marks breaks the circuit. The COB-480 (13942) cuts at 50 mm; the COB-480 (13923) offers both 25 mm and 50 mm.
