The ILED-FX-5050 120 is a flexible LED strip built on the SMD 5050 package at 120 LEDs per meter, the densest and brightest version in the 5050 range. It is the one you reach for when you want a strong, even line of light from a single strip, or a solid colour line with barely any gap between the points. It runs on a 24V supply, which suits the higher power draw at this density.
Tech specs at a glance
The strip runs on 24VDC, draws 28.8W per meter and puts out about 2,200 lumen per meter with a 120 degree spread. Colour rendering is CRI above 80 as standard and above 90 on request. Each piece ships as a 5 meter roll, 13.5mm wide, cuttable in 25mm steps.
Why the 5050 package
The 5050 is a bigger die than the 3528 and 2835, so each point is brighter and the light reads as smoother. Packed at 120 LEDs per meter it gives a near-solid line, which is why it is used where a softer, lower-count strip would look too sparse. The trade-off is the power draw, at 28.8W per meter, and the wider 13.5mm body.
What 120 LEDs per meter means
Doubling the density of a 60 piece strip doubles the output, so the light is brighter and the spacing almost disappears. It suits task and display work, high-output coves and any line that needs to carry real light. Because the draw is high, run it on 24V and feed long lines from both ends so the middle stays even.
Colour options
You can have this strip in single colours or in multi-colour. The single colours are red, green, blue, yellow, warm white, commercial white and cool white, one colour per piece. The multi-colour options are RGB and RGB plus White, which add colour mixing and a white channel on the same strip. These are static strips, so the colour is set by a controller rather than addressing each LED separately.
24V power feeding
This version runs on 24VDC, not 12V. That is the right choice for the 28.8W per meter draw, because 24V drops less voltage over distance, so the run stays even. You will need a 24V supply sized for your total meters, and for very long lines feed power from both ends.
IP rating options
The same strip is offered in four protection ratings. IP20 is for dry indoor locations such as coves and cabinetry. IP65 handles covered outdoor and wet areas like eaves and facades. IP67 and IP68 are for where the strip gets fully wet or sits in harsh coastal air. Match the rating to the location, not the highest one on the list.
Build and installation
The strip cuts cleanly in 25mm steps, so you trim it to fit instead of bending a longer piece. It is 13.5mm wide, the broadest in the 5050 range, so check your channel, cove or gap clears that width before you commit. It is backed with 3M yellow double-sided tape, and a 3M red tape is available on request. A 15cm input cable is fitted to the leading end, and connector cables can be customized to a different length or plug.
What is in the box
Each order ships with the strip as a 5 meter roll, the 3M yellow mounting tape, and the 15cm input cable on the connection end. Custom lengths are cut to order from the same roll.
What you need to supply
You will need a 24VDC power supply sized for your total meters, which the 28.8W per meter figure makes easy to add up. For the RGB and RGB plus White options you also need a compatible controller. For dimming, a compatible LED dimmer is available.
Where it gets used
As the brightest option in the 5050 family it suits task and worktop lighting, high-output coves, display and shop work, and colour changing decoration and signage. Outdoors the IP65 and above versions handle eaves, facades and garden edges.
Lifespan and reliability
The SMD 5050 LEDs carry a 50,000 hour rated life, which at typical use is well past a decade. There are no moving parts and no fan, so the strip does not fail through heat. It works from -20 C to 50 C, and with a properly sized 24V supply and feeding from both ends on long runs, the heat stays manageable even in a tight cove.
Here is what installers tell us they like about the 5050 120 piece strip:
The brightest in the range. At 120 SMD 5050 LEDs per meter it puts out about 2,200 lumen per meter, so it is the choice when you need a strong, near-solid line of light rather than a soft accent.
Single and multi-colour. The same strip comes in seven single colours and in RGB and RGB plus White, so you can do a fixed colour or colour changing from one product line.
Runs on 24V. The 24V supply suits the 28.8W per meter draw, keeping long runs even instead of dimming at the far end.
Cut to the exact length. The 25mm cut step means you trim the strip to fit instead of wasting meters or bending a piece that will not sit flat.
Ready to stick. 3M yellow tape is on the back as standard, so most indoor runs do not need any other mounting method.
The 5050 is a bigger LED, so each point is brighter and the light reads smoother. At the same LEDs per meter a 5050 strip gives more output than a 3528 or 2835, but the larger die also takes more power. Choose 5050 when you want a solid, even line of light from fewer points.
At 28.8W per meter the strip draws a lot of current. Running it on 24V drops less voltage over the run length than 12V would, so the far end stays as bright as the near end. It is the right voltage for this density, and you will use a 24V supply to feed it.
In single colours, red, green, blue, yellow, warm white, commercial white and cool white, one colour per piece. And in multi-colour, as RGB and RGB plus White, which add colour mixing and a white channel on the same strip.
Yes. The RGB and RGB plus White options are static strips, so you set and change the colour with a compatible controller or driver. You cannot address each LED separately, because it is not an addressable strip.
Under a covered roof eave, IP65 is enough. Where the strip gets fully wet, splashed hard or sits in coastal salt air, use IP67 or IP68. Match the rating to how wet the location is.
The strip cuts cleanly every 25mm on the marked line. Butt two lengths together and solder the wires, or use a 4-pin connector, keeping the lines matched. In wet locations, seal the joint with silicone.
Add up your total meters and multiply by 28.8W. A 5 meter run is about 144W, so size a 24VDC supply with headroom over that, feed long lines from both ends, and add the matching controller for the RGB and RGB plus White options.
The brightest 5050 strips like this one are used where you want a strong, even line of light or a solid colour line:
Task and worktop lighting. The 2,200 lumen per meter is enough to use as genuine lighting, not just a glow, so it suits kitchen worktops, reading zones and any surface that needs to be properly lit through the day.
High-output coves and feature lines. A long cove that needs to carry real light across a room is a good fit, especially on 24V so the output stays even from one end to the other.
Display, shop and showroom lighting. Where a softer strip would be too dim, the 5050 120 gives strong, even light under cabinets, in displays and on counters where visibility matters all day.
Colour changing and signage. The RGB and RGB plus White options add colour mixing to the same high-output line, which suits signage, feature walls and decorative lines that should change.
Architectural and facade. With IP65 and above, the strip outlines eaves, columns, canopies and garden edges outdoors, where it is weatherproof but still a strong, clean line of light.
A few things to check before ordering:
It runs on 24V only. This version is a 24V strip, so you need a 24VDC supply. Do not feed it from a 12V source, because it will not run correctly on the wrong voltage.
Size the power supply properly. This strip draws 28.8W per meter, so multiply your total meters by that and buy a supply with headroom. Undersizing is the main cause of a strip that dims at the far end.
Check the 13.5mm width. It is the broadest in the 5050 range, so make sure your channel, cove or gap clears 13.5mm before you start cutting.
Buy the controller for RGB. The RGB and RGB plus White options need a matching controller. Buy that at the same time so the install works when it arrives.
Match the IP rating to the location. IP20 is dry indoor only. Use IP65 for covered outdoor and wet areas, and IP67 or IP68 for full or harsh exposure.
