The ILED-BH-R20W MC is a round IP65 bulkhead light with an integrated microwave detector and emergency backup. It is designed for corridors, stairwells and external walkways where lights need to stay on during power failures and respond automatically to movement during normal operation. The microwave detector senses motion through walls and non-metallic surfaces, so it works reliably in corridor layouts where PIR sensors miss angles around bends.
Tech specs at a glance
The ILED-BH-R20W MC is available in two wattage options. The 20W version (ILED-BH-R20W) delivers 2200 lumens at 110 lumens per watt. The 30W version (ILED-BH-R30W) delivers 3300 lumens at the same efficacy. Both share the same Ф300×90mm housing. Input is 220-240VAC 50/60Hz — this fixture is not rated for 110VAC regions without a transformer. The colour temperature range spans 2800K to 7000K, wider than the typical 2800-6500K found on standard bulkheads. Colour rendering is above 80. The beam angle is 120°. The die-cast aluminium body is rated IK10 for impact resistance, and the PC diffuser is anti-UV treated. The integral microwave detector operates on the same mains voltage and requires no separate controller.
Emergency function
The ILED-BH-R20W MC includes a built-in emergency battery backup. When mains power fails, the fixture automatically switches to battery mode and continues to illuminate at reduced output for a rated duration. The microwave detector remains active during emergency operation, so the light still responds to motion even when running on backup power. The emergency function is tested automatically on each power cycle — if the battery cannot hold a charge, the indicator will flash to signal a fault.
Microwave detector operation
The microwave detector uses Doppler radar to sense movement through walls, partitions and non-metallic materials. Unlike PIR sensors, which detect heat signatures and require line-of-sight, microwave detection works around corners and through drywall. The detector has adjustable sensitivity and time-delay setting, typically 30 seconds to several minutes, depending on the model configuration. In normal operation the light responds to motion — it turns on when someone enters the detection zone and turns off after the delay expires with no further movement. During a power failure the same motion-sensing behaviour continues on battery power.
Build and installation
The housing is die-cast aluminium with a powder-coated finish in white, black or grey. The diffuser is anti-UV polycarbonate, rated IK10. The integral driver and emergency battery are sealed inside the housing — no external ballast or separate emergency unit is needed. Wiring is direct to 220-240VAC mains through the terminal block. The microwave detector is wired internally and does not require an external sensor module. Electrical classification is Class I, requiring a protective earth connection. The fixture mounts to a flat ceiling or wall using the four mounting points on the back plate. For recessed installation, cut a Ф300mm hole in the ceiling surface.
Control options
This fixture has no DALI, DMX or remote control capability. It is controlled by the integrated microwave detector and a standard wall switch or circuit breaker. For projects that require centralised lighting control or dimming, order the non-emergency standard bulkhead variants from the same series instead.
What is in the box
Each unit ships as a single bulkhead with the driver, emergency battery and microwave detector pre-installed. Mounting hardware and the terminal block are included. No separate sensor module, transformer or emergency box is packed inside — the fixture is ready to wire direct to mains.
Where it gets used
The ILED-BH-R20W MC is built for locations where automatic motion response and backup illumination are both required. Hotel and office corridors benefit from the microwave detector sensing around corners, reducing the number of fixtures needed. Stairwells and escape routes use the emergency function to maintain illumination during power failures, while the microwave detector conserves battery by only activating when someone is present. External walkways, car park entrances and loading bay corridors take advantage of the IP65 weatherproofing and IK10 impact rating. The wider CCT range (2800-7000K) lets specifiers match warm-white hospitality entrances with cool-white security zones from the same product line.
Certifications and warranty
The ILED-BH-R20W MC carries CE, RoHS, SAA and TUV certifications. SAA approval covers Australian and New Zealand market requirements. TUV certification provides additional safety verification for European installations. The warranty period is three to five years depending on the region and distributor terms.
